In 2018, the Lord opened the door for James E. Austin to serve as an urban missionary for House of Hope Chapel (formerly known as House of Hope Church) in Lynn, MA, under the leadership of Pastor Claire Sullivan. The House of Hope Chapel had a unique congregation, primarily consisting of individuals who were involved with gangs or had affiliations with them, as well as youth and adults who had been incarcerated. The congregation included people currently in recovery, others who were far away from the recovery journey, those who were homeless, individuals suffering from domestic abuse, and others facing various life challenges, including involvement with the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
Our Mission
To love God through worship and devotion (Matthew 22:37), and to love His people (John 13:34) by building meaningful relationships, serving those in need, and sharing the Hope of Jesus Christ (Luke 10:8-9).
Matthew 22:37 - 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
John 13:34 - 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
Luke 10:8-9 - 8 Whatever city you enter, and they receive your, eat such things as are set before you. 9 And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
Our Vision
We envision a world where every person facing personal hardship or systemic marginalization is uplifted and transformed by the hope, faith, and love of Jesus Christ—empowered to discover purpose, belonging, and a renewed future.
Our Values
1. Devotion to God:
Wholehearted love and worship of God, putting Him first in all aspects of life (Matthew 22:37).
2. Authentic Relationships:
Building genuine, meaningful connections with others, rooted in Christlike love (John 13:34).
3. Compassionate Service:
Actively serving and caring for those in need, demonstrating love through tangible actions (Luke 10:8-9).
4. Hospitality & Acceptance:
Welcoming others with openness and grace, embracing diversity and showing kindness (Luke 10:8).
5. Hope-Sharing:

A church that is dedicated to offering the Hope, Faith, and Love of Jesus Christ to individuals who may not normally attend church, such as; people who have been incarcerated, homeless, in recovery, DCF involved, or gang affiliated, among others.
House of Church is more of a wet shelter concept, where we love God and love His people, we believe come all and come as you are. Although we may be perceived as a recovery church; a place for people… in recovery, seeking recovery, interested in recovery, or far from recovery, we believe there are different stages, types and pathways of recovery, and we welcome ALL recovery forms. Regardless of your journey, ALL are welcome.

Hope Movement Ministries is a church committed to sharing the Hope, Faith, and Love of Jesus Christ with individuals who may not typically feel comfortable in traditional church settings. We intentionally reach and welcome people who have been incarcerated, are experiencing homelessness, are in recovery, are involved with DCF, are gang‑affiliated, or come from any walk of life where church has not always felt accessible.
Everyone has a story. Everyone deserves dignity. Everyone is welcome here.
House of Church operates with a “come as you are” posture. We function more like a wet‑shelter‑style ministry, grounded in the belief that loving God means loving His people, without conditions, prerequisites, or judgment.
While some may view us as a “recovery church,” our doors are open far wider than that. We recognize that:
• Recovery has many stages
• Recovery takes many forms
• Recovery follows many pathways
• Some are in recovery, some are seeking recovery, some are interested in recovery and some are far from recovery
Wherever you are on your journey, you belong here.

“Taking people from homeless to hopeful.”
Hope House is the residential arm of Hope Movement Ministries — a place where people who have walked through homelessness, incarceration, addiction, trauma, or deep personal hardship can finally breathe, rebuild, and belong. We exist for the ones who feel forgotten, overlooked, or underserved by traditional systems. Hope House opens its doors wide and says, “You still have a future. You still have purpose. You still have hope.”
This is long‑term transitional housing with a mission.
A safe place to heal.
A community to grow in.
A family to walk with you.
A home where Jesus is lifted up and people are lifted out.
Hope House is designed to be the next step in transition for some and the last step in transition for others — not rushed, not pressured, not timed. Residents stay as long as they need while they stabilize, rebuild their lives, and prepare for permanent housing and independent living. Through holistic support, biblical discipleship, meaningful relationships, and strong community partnerships, we help people “live a new normal” rooted in hope, dignity, and purpose.
